The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture promotes, supports, develops and protects the arts, culture and heritage of the province. The province’s heritage sites, museums and monuments also fall under this ministry.

The Department believes that arts and culture play a crucial role in nation-building as well as in developing a new national identity reflective of our democracy. The Department’s initiatives such as the Social Cohesion Programme ensure that people are proud of their diverse culture and heritage.

The KZN MEC for this portfolio is Mrs Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi and the political head on a national front, Minister of Arts and Culture is Nathi Mthethwa.
