What is the impact of mobile money on financial inclusion?

Ongoing research shows that mobile money has a positive impact on individuals, households and businesses. Mobile Money is driving financial inclusion in parts of society that traditionally could not access traditional financial services. Mobile money is also reshaping the way customers pay for products and services. Even essential services like transportation and electricity can be paid for using mobile money.

The possibilities for mobile money are endless because its impact on society somewhat resembles a revolution in the financial services sector. It will be interesting to watch how the future unfolds with mobile money as it continues to include millions of people in the payments ecosystem who previously were not able to be part of it. The expectation is that as mobile operators become more sophisticated at facilitating mobile money transactions, other value adding participants could be incorporated into the mobile money products and services value chain.

How Insurance Technology is shaping the insurance industry

InsurTech is enabling insurance businesses to analyse more relevant information about the way people go about their daily lives in order to help them avoid risky behaviour and innovate better products and services. Social media platforms that we use everyday have become a new source of information about how people live everyday and advanced technology allows insurance companies to process all of this information in order to have an enhanced view of a person’s insurance risk profile.

Lengthy paperwork and consultation has been like a tradition in the insurance industry for a long time and this makes the process of applying for insurance inconvenient at times. New tech applications have simplified many of these processes and cut down time spent on applications immensely. People may be more inclined to see insurance as a necessity and less of a grudge purchase as innovation in the InsurTech space deals with some of the inconvenience in getting insurance cover and pay-outs.

What is the impact of 5G on industries?

5G allows for downloading of a full HD movie within a few seconds or less. This is impressive and opens up for improved efficiency of so many kinds of technologies as things in the digital space will begin to happen more instantly than they do today. The benefits of 5G are endless. The high speed and reliability that it comes with will enable enhanced use of other life changing technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.

When it comes to the impact on industries, given the diversity of 5G application, almost all industries will stand to benefit from 5G. Once 5G is fully operational, there may be no need for any kind of cable or wire to deliver entertainment or communications services. Government, regulators, land and building owners, manufacturers and other stakeholders are required to work together to enable the roll out of 5G. With faster connection, comes endless innovation, and therefore almost every aspect of life and business stands to benefit from 5G.

What is the impact of Cloud Computing on business operations?

Cloud Computing has fast-tracked the adoption of virtual data storage for businesses. Physical data centers and servers have proven costly and inconvenient for a digital environment which requires agile adjustment to growing customer service needs. Cloud services allow a business to be agile by choosing virtual infrastructure needs at any point in time, within a short time frame, and at a reasonable cost.

Cloud Computing service delivery models like SAAS and PAAS have introduced much needed flexibility for innovation in product design and development. The "pay as you use" business model of cloud services providers has enabled the justification for Cloud Computing in operations innovation. Various industries and businesses are benefiting greatly from the efficiencies and cost savings that come with Cloud Computing.
